Tales from the Cryptkeeper is an American animated series produced by Nelvana Limited, PeaceArch Entertainment, kaBOOM! Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television Animation. The series aired on ABC from 1993 to 1994. However, in 1997, the show returned to the air, on CBS, as New Tales from the Cryptkeeper. The series is based on the E.C. Comics from the 1950s, just like its darker live-action counterpart, Tales from the Crypt, which aired concurrently on HBO. However the animated series was aimed at a younger audience, and as such, was significantly milder than the live-action series.[1]

The series was originally intended to be hosted by the same animatronic crypt keeper as the live-action series but after concerns surfaced about the animatronic hosts' suitability for a young audience, the host was changed to a milder animated version.[2]

The series is hosted by the Cryptkeeper, a wisecracking skeleton who tells tales of moral comeuppance. Each episode features a protagonist that ultimately learns a lesson by having his victim turn the tables on him. In the second season, The Vaultkeeper and The Old Witch (both narrators from the comic series) were added as hosts.
